EAW in General

Post by R.E. Tread »

After being a on the fence anon. admirer of EAW for the last 3 years, finally decided to join this site. I have early onset Parkinsons Disease which has caused me early retirement. Being from 3rd generation military family and raised on Canadian airbases in Canada and Europe has given me a great appreciation for the sacrafices our forebearers have made for us all. It also turned me into a plane nut. My father worked on the last of the R.C.A.F piston aircraft through the 1950's and all of the turbine powered aircraft from the 1960's & early 1970's. I don't play on line because of physical difficulties, but get a great mental workout both playing A.I. and figuring out how to load, modify, and rearrange the game, as well as experimenting with 3dz. & skin work, none of which compares to your skill levels. A secondary benefit has forced me to learn the intricacies of the machine known as a computer. Much of my familiarity comes directly from the sites of EAW hosts. While balancing every day life with the challenges of this illness, I credit much of keeping my current mental health and mental agility to the many who share so generously of your time to the EAW community. Thank you. R.E. Tread

Howdy R.E.Tread!
welcome to the community,I suggest signing up at simhq as well, seeing as the bulk of our community hangs out there...
as for modding EAW as therapy to deal with the less than satisfactory health....me too!
Yes,it works well for me,and I am very glad that I found EAW when I did,or I would be in a very, very sorry state today...
(non-specific Lymes related symptoms, causing intense pain and loss of coordination)
I often say that EAW changed my life....and it did!
feel free to join in any of the modding groups,I could use assistance on KAW,and VAW,as I am about to take a forced and hopefully only temporary vacation from the 'net...and while KAW and VAW arent exactly WW2,they still had piston engined AC.....!
welcome aboard m8!

Welcome, Mr. Tread.
There are two wonderful things about EAW compared to some of the newest sims, particularly IL-2 and its various descendants.

1. A great community of friendly, helpful people from around the world who don't insult your ignorance, your vocabulary, or your spelling.
Here, of course, is one of those places,
...and also at SimHQ Forums:
com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=41;DaysPrune=1000

Less popular than SimHQ is Frugal's World of Sims:
http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/foru ... forumid=24

2. A great game with some shortcomings, but many, many aircraft, different scenarios, terrains, skies, and so on that encourages first-time modders to try their hand at something. Or first time EAW flyers to wallow in an excess of choices without having to mod a thing.

Our librarian and central find-it man is Sandbagger, who is in process of changing his site:
http://www.sandbaggereaw.com/

As you have noticed, Moggy has quite a collection of scenarios of his own here. He also links to Sandbagger's so we all know where to get things.

There's online flying (usually around 1 a.m. GMT ) at the Launchpad, and online chat as well:
http://groups.msn.com/THEEAWLAUNCHPAD/chat
Yes, EAW makes it easy to join the "gang" and they will be sorta easy on you as a NewB and try to get you flying with them.

The latest thing is a "unified" version of a great game manager called OAW by Mr. Jelly and others. OAW (or OAWU as the new one is known) takes care of switching in and out of almost anything EAW. Plus it is almost a necessity now for playing online (and damn useful for playing offline in your own privacy, too)

I wish you many happy hours discharging your frustrations into enemy aircraft :)

North Pole Air War?

LOL
wasnt that called "Ice station=Zebra"?
actually this is from "Deuces" again, this is the DBS terrain from SFP1,again,on its first test run in game(what can I say,I was bored and tired of fighting the KAW hm  )
of course,in addition to being a useful terrain for the Aleutians tm and summer terrain I did last winter,it could also, with a bit of doctoring,be your "Alps" for your Swiss mod(?)
anyone up for "Himilayan air war" ?LOL

Looks excellent. I'm trying at the moment to gather up partly unfinished which has some resable stuff, so may be putting some of the Swiss stuff up shortly.
