jet slot prop fix

Post by rotton50 »

Can anyone point me to the jet slot prop fix.

I'm having problems with the cockpit view of the props when placing a prop plane on the jet slot.

I searched the SIMHQ forum and found a couple of references to it but I can't find the fix.

Thanks

The problem here is the 262a slot doesn't have the YTR transparency, usually used in the twin engine slots to get cockpit view wing props. This is down to the coding in the exe.

I had this problem in the Dunkirk addon where I put one of the Bf 110s in the 262 slot. I could get round it there by making the 262 slot 110 get its cockpit view prop transparency from one of the other 110s actually in the 110c slot.

However, its in my mind that Col Gibbon might have come up with a self sufficient 262 slot soloution for this - as I remember this involved the U.3dz having the the wing view except the props, and the Y.3dz having only the prop blades and points to a small section on the V skinfile so it can use the VTR transparency

Moggy,

Just wanted to let you know that your fix worked. I pointed the file at the Me110c slot rather that the Me262 slot.
I guess the two planes in those slots will need to be released as a package so that other people don't run into the problem.

Thanks

Hi,

another solution to use the 262 slot for propplanes is to use a entirely other skinslot, while the plane get flown from the 262 slot.

Since the 262 in general is not often used, i use this slot to make planes like the Me410, Ju88G, Ju88A etc flyable in singlemissions. The Skin and ***.flt remain in the default skinslots, while the planes.dat and loadout values get used from the 262a slot.

Knegle,

Can you explain the procedure for this method?

Hi Rotton,

if you use Airgrid.exe to edit the planes.dat, you will see a value called "Code" to edit.

This "Code" determine the skinslot + flt to be used!

Example: Select the Me 262 slot and write "j88c" instead of "262a", safe the changings and start EAW, choose the Me262 and fly. Now you will see the Ju88C skin around you and also the plane general plane performence is the Ju88C performence, while the fuelload, loadout and many DM setups will remain the Me262´s.

If you now bring ALL Ju88C planes.dat values from the Ju88C slot to the Me262 slot (with airgrid.exe) and also the Ju88C loadout to the me262 slot( i use loadoutedit from Mr.jelly), then you can fly the Ju88A in a single mission from the Me262 slot.

Interesting in this is that we dont need to store another Ju88C skin in the 262A slot and we can determin the Ju88C in the Ju88C slot(planes.dat) as bomber(also with more fule or a smaler fule burn ratio and different Ai behaviour in general), while the Ju88C in the Me262 slot can be a fighter only(the engine sound will work ok in this way).
Same i did with the Misquito, B26 and Me410, but of course its also very usefull for not default planes, like the Do17, Blenheim, A20 etc.

We could also implement suprising moments by this. Not used planeslots in a campaign can use skins from used planeslots, but with a different behaviour or weaponset or performence.
Me109´s with or without gunpods or with or without MW50 comes to mind.
SpitfireIXc´s as Merlin61, Merlin66 or Merlin67(the different will be pretty suprising for a player who is used to fight always the same SpitIXc Merlin66). Also Hurri1a, Spit1a with 100octan fuel or without, with constant speed prop or without would bring big suprises to the 109 pilot.
The other way around Me109E´s with DB601A or DB601Aa or even DB601N would suprise the Spit and Hurri pilot while BoB.

So the player always would see the same skin(unit) while the performence particular would vary much.

Edit: Wrote sometimes Ju88a instead of Ju88c by mistake!! Changed it to Ju88c!

Greetings,

Knegel
