Hello A.O,

It's something .. we (and you) don't know about your actualnew configuration.
It's must be a mistake somewhere... something enabled ..
This card with the XtremeG 78.03 MUST work for EAW and don't give the 7217 nightmare error.
This work on one of your other PC.
Sure the error come from a setting in your PC ..not from the card or drivers.
Check again very carefully in your BIO if nothing wrong is enabled concerning graphics.
Anyways keep us informed and updated.
I'm sure you will be able to cope with this problem.

Regards.

Gus.

I don't know how to help you, AO.

But I sure hope you get 'er running soon. I have a new set of original default" sounds that need reviewing.
Ray Otton will have to be my backup until then!

Hi Gus,
I can't get to my BIOS! On my old machine, if I push F2 while booting,
it goes into BIOS. Doesn't work on this one. F1, F2, F8, F10, all take
me to a black and white screen that allows me to select safe-mode.
How can I get into it?
And if it depends on my system, what information can I give you?
I DO get a windows error sound when I shut down the computer......
but have no idea how to find out what it is.........
Thanks,
AO

ps: Yo Wuddy, if I get this straightened out, I'll come bug ya!

Try 'delete', it works on machines with a phoenix type bios.
If all else fails, punt. Or, RUN AWAY!!!

Hello A.O,

Read my answer in 352 forum :)
I suspect you have a VIA chipset ... but dunno wich BIO you have.
Generally the most used actually are AWARD MEGATREND and PHOENIX.
Must be one of them.
I suspect ..a graphic thingy enabled in your BIO .. as the VIA/S36 Unichrome Pro 16P is related to a integrated graphic card in the motherboard !

Regards.

I've done a lot of PC support for a living so here's the way to find the info needed;

Quickly check the PC information by at the Windows 'run' box type in:
dxdiag

That should launch the DirectX diagnostics tool.
(check for WHQL drivers 'yes')

which should show most complete information about what you have usually includng the bios and PC make, video, DirectX details, etc.

There is a 'Save All Information' button at the bottom, use that and it will save a text file with the info.
Post the contents of that here.

if not , to find Bios info (don't flash or anything just look up the info for the bios string if you see one at boot time)

http://www.wimsbios.com/faq.jsp

otherwise a scan tool to find the bios make is here
http://scan.esupport.com/

actually here is a tool that is excellent;

http://www.hwinfo.com/

get HWinfo32 it will install and then launch it to show the info.

-S!

Hi guys,
I got into my BIOS with 'escape.' (Thanks Mike!)
All seemed well except my Primary Graphics Adapter setting.
It said "AGP." and my card is PCI. I changed it to PCI and saved
and exited. My screen went blank and the lights on the monitor
turned off...........After turning my computer off and on, it stayed
blank. Couldn't even see the boot-up.
I plugged the monitor into the on-board plug, (I had to disable the
on-board adapter, VIA/S36 Unichrome Pro 16P in order for the computer
to see my new card. Yesterday, I re-enabled it just to see what would
happen, and all stayed good.) and I was able to get back into the BIOS
and change it back to AGP, which strangely allowed me to plug the
monitor back into my PCI card.
So I have "NO IDEA" what the heck is going on here!

Anyway, I ran the dxdiag, and this is what I have:

Hello A.O,

The soup is hot and ready to be served.... :)
But I think ..she is too much salty :)
So... DirectX detect 2 graphic cards .... and their abilities (DirectDraw...D3D etc...) are enabled !!

Also check this !!!!

Exerpt of my DirectX report:

Display Devices
---------------
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600 www.TweaksRUs.com XTreme-G
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce4 Ti 4600
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0250&SUBSYS_013010DE&REV_A3
Display Memory: 128.0 MB
Current Mode: 800 x 600 (32 bit) (75Hz)
Monitor: Écran Plug-and-Play
Monitor Max Res: 1600,1200
Driver Name: nv4_disp.dll
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.7803 (English)
DDI Version: 9 (or higher)
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 8/25/2005 11:18:00, 3909632 bytes

The red line in my DirectX report is not the same as your with the same driver !!!!!
Check also the date of the driver !!!!

Oki doki :)

When you able to see something on your monitor (you know how .. as it's you the chief cook and you made the soup .. lol)

Deinstall completely the Nvidia drivers and deinstall completely the Via drivers. (I see plenty references in the DirectX report !!)
Use also the Driver cleaner for be sure you have a clean deinstallation.

Stop your PC and no energy on.

Wait some minutes.

Remove your graphic card and insert it again.

Energise and start PC

Go immediately in BIO

Check for the graphics items

Be sure you set the right choice.

Be sure to disable the onboard graphic card

Continue the boot......

You must be in a Windows XP running default VGA

Refuse all installation invites and install your ExtremeG driver.

BTW !!!!

Your MOBO is a MSI (DirectX report) and MAYBE this is this one or the same serie ..... : (I'm sure it is lol)

Your DirectX report:
System Manufacturer: MSI
System Model: MS-6741

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_sp ... R&class=mb

This MOBO have only a AGP port ...no PCIe port.
Check again MOBO and graphic card specs !!!!

Regards.

Gus.

When you say this MOBO has only an AGP port....no PCIe,
are you saying it is the wrong MOBO for this computer?
Also, I dont know what a MOBO is... does it change if I
get the card in correctly?
You are correct there is no PCIe port.......but there is no AGP either...
(only PCI slots on the board.) So should I check the specs again
AFTER reinstalling the card?

I will also have to check the BIOS again. The only setting I saw for
graphics was for setting the Primary adapter to either AGP or PCI.
And I was only able to disable the onboard graphic card from
device manager. But if this can be done in BIOS, I'll find it!

Now where is that driver cleaner?
AO

EDITED: Okay, got the driver cleaner. Thanks again Mike!
Should I do the driver deinstall and cleaning in safe-mode?

Hello Roller,

AFAIK ! the PCI choice in your BIO is the onboard graphic card.
They name it like that. (this is nothing to do with the PCI ports !)
You must choice the AGP option when you use the Nvidia 5200 card!

MOBO=motherboard :)

The pic of the graphic card (my link to) show the AGP port colored in RED
The white ones are the PCI ports !

Image

No need to go in safe mode for deinstall or install the drivers !
Please follow my guidelines from the post above !
Please be sure to deinstall the VIA graphic drivers.
You will find the drivers listed in install-deinstall choice of Windows (in control panel or parameters ...)
If not .. review the directX report.
In the section VIA graphic card ... the location of each files is show... and so it's must be possible (as last option) to remove the files manually (when you run in VGA default Windows mode)

Great pic, and yes! I DO have a red one in there!

Oki doki

When you able to see something on your monitor (you know how .. as it's you the chief cook and you made the soup .. lol)

Deinstall completely the Nvidia drivers and deinstall completely the Via drivers. (I see plenty references in the DirectX report !!)
Use also the Driver cleaner for be sure you have a clean deinstallation.

After I deinstall the drivers, how does the computer keep displaying?
Does it automatically go VGA?
Stop your PC and no energy on.

Wait some minutes.

Remove your graphic card and insert it again.

Energise and start PC

Go immediately in BIO

Check for the graphics items

Be sure you set the right choice.

Be sure to disable the onboard graphic card

Still dont know if I can disable the onboard card from BIOS.
And I dont know what the right choice would be or where.....
in BIOS under Primary graphic adapter, there is only AGP or PCI.
There are some other settings in BIOS advanced......Primary display...
which is currently set to VGA/EGA.

Continue the boot......

You must be in a Windows XP running default VGA

Refuse all installation invites and install your ExtremeG driver.

I should be running in default VGA, but is my monitor plugged into the
new card, or the onboard? (And how would that work if I have disabled
it?)
Darn! Wish you could just pop over here and do this for me!!

Hello A.O,

ROFL !!

You must put your 5200 in the RED port
Connect monitor to the 5200 output graphic extension socket
In the BIO you must choice the AGP option (dont change any other settings for now!)
Don't forget to remove all the drivers !!
And yes .. the PC when rebooting (with no drivers and 5200 in AGP port and connected to monitor) will go automatically in the Windows default VGA mode !

Regards.

Hi Gus,
but the 5200 card is NOT a PCIe or AGP card! It is a PCI.
Will it still fit?
AO

Edit: Even if the 5200 could fit in the red slot, the plug-in ports
for it will not reach the back of the computer, because it is offset
from the PCI slots. (ie was made for a longer card.)
Thanks,
AO

Hello,

Geez !!! lol ...

Not too much on the market (maybe it's a PNY or Chainteck or Diabloteck .. lol ?)

If it's a PCI .. just enable PCI in your BIO !! and insert the card in a PCI port (don't try force it in AGP!!)

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/static/html/P ... iclel.html :)

Please would you (for not continue on this for weeks ROFL) give me the exact specifications (Brand and serial numbers or any printed indications you able see!) of your motherboard and your graphic card !

Regards.
