This should be of great interest, and I'm sure most already know. This fully working carrier model was tested at sea on the Launchpad last night (Saturday, Feb. 5) and was a success as you can see:
Pobs' new carrier model is reportedly going to replace Von B's crude prototype.
As I understand it Woody, this is VB's original idea of sinking the 3dz so that the carrier deck is still in fact level with the water line - and therefore aircraft can still land and take off from that surface - but as the remainder of the carrier can be seen it gives the effect of being above the water line.
I was told off once in the SimHQ forum a couple of years back for using this expression by someone passing through. My response was that it wasn't anymore perjorative than "Brit", or "Jerry" come to that.

Well, that's on a very overly politically correct forum. I'm sure, here we can refer to Jerry’s, Yanks, Russkies, Highties, Japs, Aussies, and Brits, in historically correct way.
we can certainly put our carriers in this way, and it does seem to work ok... I still haven't checked whether it will let us fly past the superstructure hit bubble at ground level... the problem with using VB's model is :
1. It is a 'cross deck' aircraft carrier.. non historical, but means we cant see if the AI planes will pass the hit bubble, because this one avoids going near the superstructure on the runway.. and
2. Looking at the image, this model is HUGE compared to the planes !! the working carriers will be much smaller than this one I think..
You glutton for punishment. I'll get the US ones over to you tonight. (Fleet carrier. light carrier, and escort carrier - each in two parts). I'll send the Jap ones over once I've "revisited" them shortly.
