CAW target locations

Post by Moggy »

Now that we have a tile layout from Neira which includes all the locations we anted for CAW 1944 I will be getting on with the target location files.

I've posted in the CAW file repository (Targets & Terrain folder) a zip file containing a spreadsheet with the target locations currently identified. The job is not quite yet done, as I have to work out locations for Japanese convoys, but it is there if anyone wants to have a look and suggest any places not on the list, or give any details for any of the places mentioned.

Moggy,

Did you get the feedback I sent to you, along with a bunch of additional info?

Cheers,

Hello Kurt,

Yes got all that stuff which was very useful and enabled me to put in more bases and towns. I did reply but I seem to have very bad luck with your email address - either I get bounced right away or I've no guaratee that the message has actually arrived.

As you can see from the latest news post, world making is going on well.

How near are we to a planes package? What are we still short?

I don't know what is wrong with my email - but I have a suspicion that I picked up some virus or another though I can't seem to locate it.

Since we decided to put the FAA on hold while we complete the 1944 package I have put the partially done Firefly away for the time being. We are lacking only one original plane now, which is the OS2U Kingfisher, which is a big job. I also need to modify a B-24 into a PBY-1 with a bow turret, which I should be able to complete fairly quickly.

I was planning on making a high resolution Zero, but on reflection, I have decided against it, because it would stick out from the other planes which are all normal resolution. It does need a shape update though, and to be made into the A6M5 version. I want to do the same sort of improvement/update for the Ki-43 Oscar.

The final piece for all of this is to paint the textures to represent the unit markings and camouflage to the ones we choose to represent. That is a minor project, but I think, an important touch.

In between I am still working on the Midway updates - The F4F's are done , along with the SBDs, TBDs TBF, and the Kates. I have a new F2A Buffalo model done but not reskinned yet. Once I have done the Zero for CAW, that leaves the Val and SB2U models to be updated and a repaint of the new high res B-17.

Cheers

Excellent news Kurt. I think you're right about staying with lo-res for the moment.

Amongst the squads I thought we might start to pencil in are:

VF-15 "Fiughting Aces" on the fleet carrier Essex The highest scorers Saipan through to Leyte Gulf (Hellcats)
VF-31 "Flying Meataxes" on the light carrier Cabot. The highest scoring CVL fighter squad (Hellcats)
VC-3 on the escort carrier Kalinin Bay (Wildcats). I'll have to put in some extra carrier locations for this squad, bot not a great problem

I have now allocated and laid out all of the EAW airfields and towns to locations within CAW, so this hopefully should avoid any off map CTD problems. Once I have finished the city/river/field tile layout I will make a further and better layout of the airfields and target areas.

Thinking about having static aircraft on the carriers somehow.

Moggy,

static planes on the carriers shouln't be difficult, just allocate them a tmod and place them with the target editor like any other target. Remember we can convert any single 3dz aircraft model to a ground target now using either Per's or my method for dropping the plane model onto its wheels...

Thanks Pobs - I was thinking possibly of using the bodge of using the shadow file to place some static planes on the decks.

Moggy,

please dont do that :)

the shadow files are not destroyable... how frustrating will it be to strafe a carrier full of planes only to do no damage to the deck aircraft ?... make them seperate tmods and they can blow up individually... pleeeeease....
